About Ringwood State Park

Located in Passaic County, New Jersey, Ringwood State Park is a 4,600-acre public recreation area set within the Ramapo Mountains. The park features a mix of rugged forested hills, tranquil lakes, and expansive lawns, providing a broad range of outdoor experiences. The park’s centerpiece is the historic Ringwood Manor and the New Jersey Botanical Garden at Skylands, where visitors can explore carefully curated gardens and learn about the site’s colonial and industrial past. Ecologically, the park protects temperate hardwood forests dominated by oaks, maples, and hickories, and supports wildlife including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and numerous songbirds. Popular recreational activities include hiking along a network of trails with scenic overlooks and lakefront views, fishing in the park’s lakes and ponds stocked with trout and bass, as well as picnicking, mountain biking, and seasonal cross-country skiing. Ringwood State Park has deep historical roots, having been established on the site of iron mining and refining operations dating back to the colonial era, with preserved iron furnaces and other industrial relics. Visitors appreciate the blend of cultural heritage and outdoor adventure, making the park a favored destination for families, naturalists, and history enthusiasts throughout the year.
